AMESA 2016 Mental Maths Results

Another successful AMESA  done and dusted and lots of fun was had by all the teachers who entered our mental maths competition. We saw a lot of improvement on last year’s times and we are amazed at the absolutely incredible results we had this year.

The top ten results were all under 1 minute!

In 10th position, Paul Mutodi from the University of Limpopo came in at 52 seconds.

In 9th position was Dorian Soudien from Willowmoore High School in Gauteng. His time was 51 seconds.

In 8th position was Molepo Selokela with 49 seconds. He is from Peakanyo in Limpopo.

In 7th position was Biri Mashiane from Acorn-Oaks in Mpumalanga. He achieved his personal best of 42 seconds.

Priscilla Matsoetse was 6th with a time of 40 seconds. Priscilla is from Makgofe in Limpopo.

Tied for 4th position were Martha Mashao and M.S. Khumalo with 36 seconds. Martha is from Limpopo and Mr Khumalo is from Mpumalanga.

In 3rd place was Alton Ontong with 33 seconds (last year’s winning time). He is our only top ten from the Free State and teaches at Golden Park Primary school.

Zodwa Sibanyoni spent four hours on Thursday morning attempting to break our winners record-breaking time. She achieved a personal best time of 32 seconds! Zodwa walked away with a set of ten SHARP EL-W535HT scientific calculators for her school in Mpumalanga.

In first place – with just 29 seconds, is our winner from last year – Thabo Makgolo! When I asked him if he wanted another prize (instead of the microwave which he had won last year as well) he said no – rumour has it that he won it for a very special lady – wink wink, nudge nudge  😉

We are incredibly proud of our winners this year and cant wait to see what next year will bring in the Eastern Cape.
